Season Recap: 1s complete remarkable promotion

With four weeks of the season to go it was all-but over, however, a remarkable late season run from our 1s, under Tomek Tsang, saw them pip Chiswick on the final day to earn an instant promotion back to the third tier!

The Trees' defeat to Chiswick at Riverside Drive left them 20 points behind with four to play, a gap that still stood at 18 points going into the final two weekends of the campaign.

Tomek's side had two tricky assignments ahead of them too. A home game against West Harrow before a trip to champions London Tigers on the final day.

Asked to chase 231 on the penultimate weekend, to keep their hopes alive, the 1s put in their most complete batting performance of the campaign to win with 3 wickets in hand.

Majed Ali (50) and Rohit Khullar (30) laid the groundwork at the top of the order before Harry Marston (40) and Aadil Khan (38*) put on a partnership of 58 to break the back of the chase.

That victory, coupled with Chiswick's defeat at home to Friends United meant it all went down to the final day!

The trip to runaway leaders London Tigers was a daunting prospect but the Trees went there with nothing to lose. In the end, they gained everything.

The 1s were patient batting first. Aadil (43) anchored the innings at the top, allowing Tomek (48) and Harry (26) to accelerate towards the end.

Brentham's total of 174 was a competitive one. It was quickly made to look like a very good one as Cody Pyne (2-31) removed both openers early.

The hosts rebuilt before 17-year-old Jack Ellis underlined his enormous potential with a match-winning spell of 4-37. From 97-3 to 109-6, Tigers' innings never really recovered.

As news filtered through of Chiswick's 14-run defeat, Harry Marston (2-18) and a Jack runout left the Trees on the brink.

The promotion-clinching wicket was fittingly taken by skipper Tsang, completing the simplest of run outs to spark scenes of wild celebration which continued long in Sunday!

With ten regular members of the team under 28, including four teenagers, this looks like just the start for our 1s!
